Announcing our First Community Garden!
We are starting this project so that we can introduce a fresh element to our services. As you know it is expensive to eat healthy and most of the time the communities that need our assistance cannot afford fresh vegetables and or do not have a way to grow them. So with that in mind I mentioned that the SMD Food Bank would like to start a garden to benefit those less fortunate and we have been blessed with a couple who have offered their land for our garden in St. Mary’s County!
I know this is a great undertaking, but I feel it is worthy of the work! However, I cannot do it alone, so I have formed the Southern Maryland Food Bank Community Garden Club! We now have 3 members(thanks Trish and Catherine) and we need more! If you would like to be a part of this project please let me know ! For those that live outside of St. Mary’s County, I will be arranging for us to meet at the food bank and travel together to the garden on a weekly bases. I will also be doing a schedule so that the work is shared by all. When it comes time to harvest the fruits of our labor, all the sites that have a volunteer in the “club” will received a equal share of the vegetables! Our goal is to have plants in the ground by May 30th!
